Walltur had returned to the cafeteria during the evening, being one of the few areas still open for gathering this late. He had settled into a far table, having started on the team's new design.
After a good half an hour, he had come up with a possible design. It was a group of kittens, two of them were laying next to one another, eyes averted but both looking quite pleased with themselves. There was a larger tomcat on the other side, looking happy but sleepy. There was a smaller, energetic kitten perched on his head, doing it's best to give a roar.
Walltur slid the portrait to Booker, eager to hear his opinion.
"Team?"

Booker laughed jovially, "This must be your best work yet Wally." "The pen strokes, the heart, the angst," he expounded waving his hand dramatically in the air with every word, "I think it perfectly captures the very essence of our beings."
"hey you want a coffee," Booker asked looking up to smile at his friend, "Its late and I don't feel like sleeping just yet." He glanced in the direction of the lunchlady's small window. At this time of night she wasn't working but a small selection of pastries and warm beverages were available twenty four hours a day. "I mean its most likely lukewarm instant coffee," he grimaced, "but hey it'll still do the trick."
"Hey," he added still looking in the direction of the sparse buffet his voice taking on an even and dour tone, "seems like Quinn finally made her move on Charlie huh?" Booker turned back to his studly friend his eyes having grown shuttered, "just wanted to make sure you were alright with that," he inquired with a stony face he only ever showed to his childhood friend. "I know you had some feelings there no matter how slight," he sighed as he turned back towards the coffee. "Don't worry though," he said methodically putting one foot in front of the other, "we both know the tension has been there a while. Maybe this will be the thing Charles needs to come out of that shell of his..."
Moment's later Booker returned with the coffee his eyes bright and his steps light and bouncy, "So we finally know where Quinn's room is huh Wally?" Booker laughed and slipped a cup of coffee in front of his pal, "though I'm not sure why she wouldn't let us stay longer. I mean would could have discussed strategy while Charlie slept off that liquor."
"It was almost like she wanted us out of there quickly for some reason," his eyes flashed, "...probably because there's a vent that leads DIRECTLY into her room she didn't want us to know about!"
Booker gulped his coffee down, "The games afoot Wally!"

Walltur listened to his friend's words and paid close attention. He isn't normally this serious around others, so the large man knew to listen carefully at times like this. His face changed to one of appreciation; even if Booker didn't get it 100% right, it was the thought that counts.
"Thanks."
Once Booker had some coffee and started to jump to conclusions, Walltur knew he had lost him again. Before he could get too far, he put a large hand on Booker's shoulder, turning him slowly to face him.
"Stay..."
He sat across from Booker, studying his friend's reaction. Although not always the most forthcoming, he knew it was important for everyone to get a chance to open up. He reached his hand out to grasp Booker's, his eyes a little concerned, motioned to Booker.
"Okay?"

Hoa Li looked up at the mention of his name. "The game is a foot?" he said from across the room. "I don't understand. Quidditch is hand sport." None of these lab rats ever made a lick of sense. Hoa Li wondered how they got to work so many shifts here and he was stuck working late nights as a substitute. He worked hard every day and never saw any reward. What was the secret? Maybe he just needed to speak his mind. "Lab rat no make sense!" he shouted finally. "Why you work many shift and I work all late shift? I work hard and no reward. What secret?"

Booker smiled as his friend laid his giant hand on his shoulder. It wasn't often that Booker had physical contact of any kind.
Not that I COULDN'T...
...I just choose not to.
Ladies love this face.
But it was nice to know that he had one person in the world that truly cared about him and this big mountain of a man next to him was that person. He always had been and Booker couldn't ever imagine parting ways.
He opened his mouth to let the big guy know, even in some small way, how much he meant to him
-when he was suddenly interrupted.
"Oh god..." Booker thought to himself, "its the alternate."
There were a good number of alternates here at the labs but they mostly did the late night shifts and "alpha testing" which, compared to their beta testing, had a much higher mortality rate.
"Oh hey there....uhhh....Hoe-Uh," Booker ventured, "How's the third shift been treating you?"

Walltur had felt a small flutter in his great chest as Booker reacted to him positively. He had only meant to check to see how Booker was doing, but based on that look in his eyes, he may been misinterpreted in the best way. His anticipation was cut short with Wally's entrance, Walltur's expression flattened as he turned to see him. This wasn't the first time the two of them had been confused with one another by name, but it certainly felt like the worst example. With a deep sigh, he shrugs his shoulders as he responds to Hoa Li.
"Timing."

"Yeah," Booker added, "I think the big guys right."
Turning to the alternate he continued, "Your timings a bit bad right now." "We could always hang out a bit later but Walltur and I were having a bit of a conversation here," Booker smiled politely.
"Isn't that right big guy?" he asked his buddy.
